The British Museum was an amazing experience. There are so many different cultures to explore, and each exhibit is unique to all the others. The building itself is magnificent, with its high ceilings and grand architectural flair.
Though there were so many things to see, I was continually drawn back to the Egyptian exhibitions. The amount of detail that went into each carving was truly incredible. Down to the scales on a fish or the tiny print of hieroglyphics, it must have taken years to perfect the art. It's also crazy and puzzling to me how a civilization, while advanced for its time, had hardly the amount of technology to move such colossal pieces of stone. It really shows the dedication the Egyptians had for their art and culture.
I didn't focus on a specific piece, but rather the Egyptian exhibits as a whole. Staring at the carvings, it really hit me how astounding these ancient works are. Each work is so intricate and almost perfect in form; every sarcophagus lid completely smooth and polished. It is truly amazing to me how they were able to use their very limited tools to create such magnificent reliefs and sculptures!
